Cold storage applications cover all aspects of food transportation, storage, and distribution. However, due to the extremely high energy consumption of cold rooms, customers can consider many factors when designing a cold room to maximize energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Six Aspects to Improve Cold Storage Warehouse Operational Efficiency
1. Selection of Refrigeration Units
Different refrigeration equipment has different energy consumption rates. Choosing a high-efficiency refrigeration system will reduce the energy consumption of the cold room.
2. Cold Storage Lighting System
To save energy, the energy consumption of the lighting system should be minimized while considering scientific, safety, and rationality aspects. Therefore, choose a system that reduces both bulb power consumption and heat radiation levels.
3. Thermal Insulation of Cold Storage
The thermal insulation of a cold room directly affects the start-up frequency of the refrigeration unit. Frequent starts increase power consumption and shorten the service life of refrigeration equipment.
Howcool typically uses 200mm panels for freezer rooms, while 100-150mm panels are used for other cold rooms.
4. Timely Defrosting of Air Coolers
The frost thickness on air coolers directly affects the cooling efficiency of the fans. Regular defrosting can reduce power consumption.
5. Regular Oil Release, Descaling, and Air Purging
Data shows that when the oil film thickness reaches 0.1mm, the evaporation temperature drops by 2.5°C to maintain the set temperature. This in turn increases power consumption by more than 10%. When the scale thickness on the condenser water wall reaches 1.5mm, the condensation temperature will rise by 2.8°C compared to the original, increasing power consumption by 9.7%. If non-condensable gases are present and the partial pressure reaches 0.196MPa, power consumption will increase by nearly 18%.
By regularly releasing oil, descaling, and purging air, users can ensure good heat transfer and more efficient energy-saving performance.
6. Reasonable Temperature Difference Between Day and Night
In marine environments, the day-night temperature difference is between 6-10°C, but in continental climate zones, this difference increases to 10-15°C.
If the nighttime ambient temperature is lower, the nighttime start-up time can be adjusted based on product storage requirements. The condensation temperature is relatively lower, which is very beneficial for cold storage energy saving.
