 Ceiling-mounted air cooler evaporator (cold room ceiling air cooler, forced-air evaporator)



 I. Principle

Refrigerant (R22/R404A/R507/R32) evaporates inside internally threaded copper coils, absorbing heat. Axial fans force the cold room air through aluminum fins for heat exchange and cooling. The unit is ceiling-mounted on the cold room roof, saving floor space, and is a common evaporator for cold rooms with semi-embedded doors.

 III. Unit Structure

1. Heat exchange coil (core evaporator)

φ9.52mm internally threaded copper tube + corrugated aluminum fins, mechanically expanded for tight contact, pressure tested at 2.0~2.5MPa at factory; anti-corrosion options: stainless steel fins, blue film coated fins (for seafood storage corrosion protection).

2. Low-temperature axial fan

380V moisture-proof low-temperature motor, commonly with φ400/500mm blades, 1 to 4 fans, more fans for higher cooling capacity.

3. Defrost system (essential for low temperature)

 Electric defrost (standard for small cold rooms): U-shaped stainless steel heating elements inserted between fins, powered defrost, commonly used with small cold rooms with semi-embedded doors;

 Water defrost (medium/large): overhead water spray pipes for defrosting, energy-saving, suitable for high-humidity cold rooms;

 Hot gas defrost (high-end blast freezing): high-temperature refrigerant from compressor flows back through the coil for defrosting.

4. Drain pan + drainage

Galvanized/stainless steel drain pan at the bottom, drain pipe with slope leading outside to prevent defrost water from freezing and blocking the door (pay special attention to drainage when paired with semi-embedded cold room doors).

5. Casing: Galvanized steel with plastic coating / 304 stainless steel, rust-proof and low-temperature resistant.


 IV. Advantages and Disadvantages

✅Advantages

1. Ceiling-mounted, does not occupy usable floor space, suitable for cold rooms with semi-embedded doors for manual access;

2. Uniform air distribution, fast cooling, minimal temperature fluctuation, 30%+ more efficient than ceiling coil cooling;

3. Full range of specifications, customizable for cold rooms from a few square meters to several hundred square meters.

❌Disadvantages

1. Fan airflow accelerates drying and moisture loss of food (increase fin spacing for fresh meat storage);

2. Frequent frost formation in low-temperature environments, requiring regular defrosting, slightly higher power consumption than aluminum coils.


 V. Installation Points (for semi-embedded cold room construction)

1. Ceiling-mounted with hook bolts, keep the unit level to prevent water accumulation;

2. The return air opening of the air cooler should be at least the width of the unit away from the wall to ensure smooth return air;

3. Drain pipe should have an outward slope of 3‰~5‰, and be insulated where it passes through the wall to prevent freezing;

4. Keep the air outlet away from columns and semi-embedded door openings to prevent short-circuiting of return air.


 VI. Simple Selection Guide

 Fruit and vegetable preservation (0℃): choose DL air cooler, 120~150W cooling capacity per cubic meter of cold room;

 Meat freezing (18℃): choose DD air cooler, 180~220W per cubic meter (mainstream for semi-embedded door cold rooms);

 Quick freezing (below 25℃): choose DJ air cooler, 280~350W per cubic meter.
