How to Reduce the Cost of Cold Storage Construction?

Published: 2026-06-11     Views: 87

We are all familiar with cold storage, which is very common in daily life. For example, fruits, vegetables, seafood, and medicines all need to be kept fresh. Therefore, the utilization rate of cold storage is continuously increasing. To improve customer satisfaction and higher welfare, many companies choose to build cold storage facilities. We all know that the construction of cold storage requires significant costs, so many companies are considering how to reduce cold storage construction costs. Reducing cold storage construction costs means cutting down on unnecessary expenses and disruptions. Based on this, ensuring cold storage. So, what factors can save costs in cold storage construction?

1. The cooling range of cold storage determines its scope of use and significantly impacts installation costs. The lower the design temperature of the cold storage unit, the higher the demand for refrigeration equipment, and the higher the cost of the cold storage unit. Reasonably selecting the cooling range of the cold storage helps control installation costs and reduce investment waste. For example, the storage temperature for fruits is usually not lower than 0°C, with only a few varieties requiring -1°C. Many tropical fruits have an optimal storage temperature of 5°C or even above 10°C. Cold storage for all fruits is typically designed with a temperature of 0°C. If you find it acceptable, you can also use 5°C as the design temperature.

2. When constructing a cold storage, the installation is very flexible. We can achieve the same cooling effect by configuring different types and quantities of equipment. In small and medium-sized cold storage, the cost of a single unit is usually lower than that of multiple units. However, when the cooling capacity of the cold storage reaches a certain level, the demand for equipment becomes higher, and the price of a single unit will be higher than that of multiple units. Therefore, when selecting a cold storage solution, do not blindly choose a parallel unit system for stability and energy efficiency, or a multi-unit system for convenience. Instead, consider the overall installation cost, operating cost, and other aspects.

3. Water-cooled units do not have high requirements for cooling water. Relatively clean water without impurities and corrosiveness can be used. If the cold storage installation site is near a natural water source, or located in a place with an existing water supply system such as a ship or factory, water-cooled units can be selected to directly use the existing water supply system. The price of water-cooled units is lower than that of air-cooled units. If there is no need to configure water pumps, pipes, and other equipment, the installation cost of cold storage equipment can be reduced. This method can lower cold storage costs and improve the cooling efficiency of the cold storage.

4. If the installation environment for cold storage is poor, appropriate protective measures should be taken during installation to ensure that cold storage performance and production efficiency are not affected, thereby reducing installation and operating costs. So, how can we reduce damage to cold storage in daily use? What factors should be considered in the construction environment of cold storage?

The following are common operational methods:

1. Try to install cold storage equipment in a cooler location to avoid increasing the cooling load of the cold storage equipment and the cost of insulation and refrigeration components.

2. During installation, avoid or remove harmful factors such as heat sources, corrosive substances, flammable and explosive items, so there is no need to invest extra funds in protective facilities or high-strength materials.

3. If the cold storage is installed indoors, there is no need to invest in awnings and protective facilities. Build the cold storage in a well-ventilated indoor environment, so that the storage body and equipment can be placed indoors, saving costs on pipes and other materials.
