Cold storage refrigeration is a highly precise system engineering project. Its core lies in continuously "transferring" the heat inside the storage to the external environment through a series of thermodynamic cycles, thereby maintaining a constant low-temperature state. A modern cold storage refrigeration system is not the operation of a single piece of equipment, but an organic whole coordinated by core components, pipeline valves, and an intelligent control network.


The "heart" of cold storage refrigeration is the compressor, which is responsible for drawing in low-temperature, low-pressure gaseous refrigerant and compressing it into high-temperature, high-pressure gas, providing continuous power for the entire refrigeration cycle. Subsequently, the high-temperature, high-pressure gas enters the condenser, where it releases heat and condenses into high-pressure liquid through heat exchange with an external cooling medium (such as air or water). For large cold storage, water-cooled condensers are favored for their high heat transfer efficiency, while air-cooled condensers are widely used in small and medium-sized cold storage due to their easy installation.


Before the liquid refrigerant flows into the storage, the throttling device (such as a thermostatic expansion valve or electronic expansion valve) plays the role of an "intelligent regulating valve." It precisely controls the refrigerant flow rate, causing its pressure and temperature to drop sharply, turning it into a low-temperature, low-pressure gas-liquid mixture. Finally, these refrigerants absorb heat from inside the cold storage in the evaporator, completing the evaporation and heat absorption process, lowering the storage temperature, and then returning to the compressor as gas again, in a continuous cycle.


In addition to the four core components, a complete refrigeration system also relies on the support of many key auxiliary components. For example, the oil separator separates and recovers the lubricating oil carried out by the compressor, ensuring the stability of the lubrication system; the filter drier intercepts moisture and impurities in the system to prevent "ice blockage" in the expansion valve; and the liquid receiver acts as a "reserve warehouse" for refrigerant, stabilizing the liquid supply when the system load fluctuates. In addition, devices such as high/low pressure protectors and gas-liquid separators act as "sentinels" of the system, always preventing the compressor from being damaged due to abnormal operating conditions.


In the selection of refrigerants, the industry is undergoing profound changes. Traditional Freon, although stable in performance, is gradually being replaced due to its high Global Warming Potential (GWP). Nowadays, liquid ammonia has become a "regular" in large cold storage due to its low boiling point, high latent heat of vaporization, and high energy efficiency ratio. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide (CO₂) refrigeration is emerging in pharmaceutical and food cold storage due to its non-toxic and environmentally friendly properties.
