The cold storage compressor is the "heart" of the entire refrigeration system. It draws in low-temperature, low-pressure gaseous refrigerant and compresses it into high-temperature, high-pressure gas, providing continuous power for the entire refrigeration cycle. The performance of the compressor directly determines the cooling efficiency, pull-down speed, and subsequent operating electricity costs of the cold storage. For conventional freezers ranging from a few hundred to over a thousand square meters, reciprocating compressors, with their mature technology, ease of maintenance, and wide applicability, serve as the cost-effective workhorse. In large logistics cold storages or industrial refrigeration systems, screw compressors are the undisputed champion, delivering robust power and stable operation, making them highly suitable for prolonged continuous high-load duty.


As precision machinery, cold storage compressors must be equipped with comprehensive self-protection mechanisms during long-term operation. When the system experiences excessively high or low refrigerant pressure, or an abnormal rise in discharge temperature, the compressor's high-pressure, low-pressure, and overheat protection mechanisms immediately intervene and shut down the unit to prevent serious accidents. Furthermore, stable compressor operation relies on critical auxiliary components such as oil separators, which effectively trap refrigeration oil discharged with the refrigerant, ensuring an adequate oil supply to the lubrication system and preventing mechanical wear.


To extend the service life of the compressor (typically over 10 years), routine maintenance is essential. Overheating is the leading cause of premature compressor failure; therefore, the cooling system must be properly maintained to avoid operation under high-temperature conditions. Additionally, refrigeration oil should be replaced periodically, and dirt on the equipment surface should be cleaned to prevent contaminants from impairing lubrication performance. During routine inspections, if the compressor starts frequently, runs for extended periods, or exhibits severe vibration and abnormal noise, it often indicates issues such as expansion valve ice blockage, excessive frost buildup on the evaporator, or internal valve plate leakage, which must be promptly addressed by shutting down the unit for troubleshooting.
